Emily's Feb. Inspiration "Land Depressed of Make Believe"

Since I was a little girl I loved the Oscars. I’d watch all the coverage in awe of the talented actors in beautiful gowns and tuxes. When I lived in LA, I’d walk over to the Kodak Theatre on my lunch breaks as a studio receptionist and watch as they lifted huge gold statues to flank the entry, rolled out the red carpet and put up the big press tents.

I love the movies. I love how a good film makes me feel or think even weeks after I’ve seen it. I love writing them, acting in them. It’s a sad year this one. Creatively we are witnessing the effect of a repressed economy, a safe market that only invests in remakes or concepts friendly to masses. A Hollywood that makes only sequels; TITANIC, and every other classic now in 3D. It saddens me, the little girl feeling lost in this land depressed of make believe.

We need art. We need stories to share our hearts, our communities, our truths. I’m tired of using the economy as an excuse for safe, mediocre films. Join me in creating stronger art. In continuing to tell your unique stories even if DreamWorks or Sony doesn’t look twice, tell them anyway. Change your views on abundance. Because dismal economy or not, you truly are rich…  In spirit, in heart, in ideas you are abundant and we need to hear you. The Oscar-- must go to you.

Keep creative spirits free,Emily
